Moth Treatment

What Does Bugman Do?

Our technicians will treat the interior of your house while searching for and treating any infestations the moths have made. Infestation location will vary with the species of moth, but typically meal moths are found in stored products in the kitchen or pantry, and clothing moths will be found in clothes, as the name implies. Once the problem areas are located, we typically fog or spray the area with people and pet-friendly products.

Will Moths Cause Damage?

Moths can cause damage. While adult moths do not feed on clothing or fabrics, their larvae, also known as caterpillars, can cause significant damage to wool, silk, and other natural fibers. Moths can also damage stored food, carpets, and upholstered furniture.

Moths Life Cycle

EggsA female moth lays up to 50 eggs in 2 weeks near a plant source. The eggs hatch into larvae in 30 days, taking 7-10 days to grow with proper conditions.
Larvae (Caterpillar)The newly hatched caterpillar feeds on its shell for proteins and later feeds on nearby plants. It grows bigger with each instar, sheds its skin, and eats the cuticle after molting. This process continues until it enters the pupa stage.
PupaeThe caterpillar spins a silk cocoon around its shell where it transforms into a pupa. During this stage, tissues break down and the moth does not feed or move. After two weeks, the caterpillar emerges as a fully developed moth with wings.
AdultsA fully grown moth emerges from its cocoon with a swollen abdomen and shriveled wings. It takes time for the fragile wings to harden before the moth can fly out to feed and mate. The lifespan of a moth varies based on the species, with some living for weeks and others up to 10 weeks.

Do Moths Bite?

No, moths do not bite. They do not have the mouthparts or anatomy to bite. They feed on nectar or other sources of sugar and do not feed on blood or skin.

Signs of a Moths Ant Infestation

  • Visible moths flying around inside or near the property.
  • Small holes or damage to clothing, carpets, upholstery, or food items.
  • Cocoons or pupal cases on walls or in corners.
  • Frass or droppings left by moths.
  • Webbing or silken threads in the affected areas.

It’s important to address a moth infestation as soon as possible to prevent further damage and the spread of the problem.
